United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Mission
The overarching
mission of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is to contribute to the
safety and security of our citizens, ports, waterways and costal
regions. We must balance our missions of Recreational Boating Safety,
Coast Guard Support and Maritime Homeland Security.
The Coast
Guard Auxiliary is a volunteer civilian, non-military component of
the United States Coast Guard. The Auxiliary is a service
organization, over 30,000 strong providing: the public with safe
boating and seamanship education; the public with free vessel
safety examinations to assure their boats have all of the safety
equipment the law requires; boat and aircraft Operations to assist
the Coast Guard and other government agencies with search and
rescue events, regatta patrols, boat parades and similar events; and provides
operational support to allow local Coast Guard units to release facilities
to address disasters or emergencies.
Coast Guard Auxiliarists volunteer over 2,000,000 hours annually in
support of these missions.
